Burgess also states the value of satisfaction, or passion, in teacher effectiveness, but doesn't seem to offer a path to achieve it outside of "choosing" to do so. "That journey begins the instant a teacher chooses to shift his or her mindset and says, “Yes! I want to be great!”" (XXXX). Burgess seems to ignore the factors affecting teacher satisfaction
In my first post, I referred to the work of Daniel Pink about Motivation. (xxxx) It's even more applicable here. Pink notes that while extrinsic incentives like financial rewards work to a certain extent with certain simple tasks. However, in complex, cognitive situations (like teaching), these rewards did little, and in some case led to worse performance. What did motivate workers in these environments to increase performance were three things: Mastery, Autonomy, and Purpose. This seems to indicate that professional satisfaction plays a crucial role in teacher effectiveness.

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to watch it again. I will definitely share this. Like Burgess said, I have made the decision that I want to be great and the enthusiasm that I bring to the classroom helps motivate the students. I love being there. I'm not there for the money, hahaha. On my tough days this decision is made again, it really helps me stay excited for my audience.

Thanks for sharing the video! I've seen this guys videos before, he's great. I sure wish I could draw like him, that would be awesome to do at school when presenting something to the kids. Burgess doesn't seem to address teacher satisfaction but he certainly does hit on our mighty purpose to teach to our student's futures.
